Good to know

How many yatai are there in Fukuoka?

This guide lists 94 stalls from Fukuoka City’s yatai open data: 50 in Tenjin, 34 in Nakasu, 6 in Nagahama and 4 in other areas.

What time do yatai open and close?

Listed opening times run from 17:30 to 19:45, and 18:00 is the most common. Closing times run from 23:00 to 04:00; 61 of 94 stalls close after midnight. Hours change, so check before you go.

Can I pay by card?

Only 17 of 94 stalls list card payment. Bring cash in yen, and check how to pay before ordering.

Is there a cover charge (otoshi)?

City data lists no cover charge for 76 of 94 stalls. 18 stalls list a cover charge or a paid starter (otoshi); where an amount is given, it is ¥300–¥500. If unsure, ask before you sit down.

Are yatai open in the rain, on Sundays and holidays?

Yatai commonly close in rain, strong wind or other bad weather. 30 of 94 stalls list Sunday as a regular day off, 7 mention public holidays and 48 list irregular closing days, so check the stall’s own updates before you go.

What are the basic manners?

Order a dish and a drink each, check prices and any cover charge before ordering, keep luggage small and give up your seat when others are waiting. Confirm allergies with the staff directly.

How much should I budget?

City-listed average spend runs from ¥1,500 to ¥4,000, and ¥2,000 is the most common figure. Drinks and extra dishes add up, so bring a little more than you plan to spend.

All 94 operating records in Fukuoka City’s dataset, updated 2 October 2026 and re-retrieved 25 October 2026. All 94 live city detail pages were checked on 25 October for Japanese names and menu highlights; newer descriptions supersede the dataset where they differ. English adaptations were reviewed against those Japanese descriptions. This is not live opening information. English text is adapted from city listings, not personal reviews.

Cover-charge labels distinguish city-listed information from the stall’s own published menu. A dataset update does not independently confirm every field. “Not confirmed” never means free or unlimited. Budgets are city-listed averages, not fixed menu prices. Menu photos may be older; check prices before ordering. 64 menu images and two operator menu pages were reviewed on 26 October 2026, yielding 1,847 bilingual menu entries for 54 stalls. The remaining 40 show city-listed highlights only. Bilingual menu transcriptions retain legible items; unclear text and missing prices are left unconfirmed. Japanese is shown alongside the selected language; some source menus are incomplete. Vegetable searches identify ingredients, not verified vegetarian or vegan suitability.

Photograph(s) provided by Fukuoka City. Photo-use terms. Supplied photos have no capture dates and may not show today’s appearance. Nine listings have no supplied photo. The fallback cover, sumi-style drawings and 94 clay-style stall miniatures are AI-generated illustrations. The miniatures are raster artwork, not Blender models. 82 miniatures are based on earlier illustrations inspired by exterior photos; 12 are imagined because exterior references were missing or incomplete. Japanese nameplates reproduce the city-listed names, not the stalls’ original sign lettering. Food symbols are a shorthand for documented dishes and are not dietary or allergen labels. They are not current exterior records. Original city photos remain in stall details. Area descriptions draw on the city’s yatai area guide.

Subway stations: Fukuoka City open data (CC BY). Lines connect verified stations schematically; they are not exact track paths. Nearby station distances are straight-line estimates, not walking routes. Streets © OpenStreetMap contributors; OpenMapTiles and OpenFreeMap. MapLibre GL JS. Landmarks are stylized Blender renders, not measured replicas. The airport and subway icons are symbolic. Food and etiquette scenes are AI-generated. The animated town uses original Three.js geometry; phrase cards combine generated scenes with original vector symbols. Map stalls use real Three.js geometry, with reference-informed colours and city-listed Japanese names. They are stylized interpretations, not measured replicas or verified current exteriors; stalls with incomplete references remain approximate. Fredoka: SIL Open Font License. Three.js: MIT License. Japanese audio: Kokoro-82M, Apache-2.0, default jf_alpha voice; synthetic, not a human recording.
